Reminisce Over You Artist Talk with Maurice Scarlett III (ms3) [and Ringo Lisko] in conversation with our Founder, Jasmine Washington
From Maurice: "Reminisce Over You is a visual love letter to the formative years of my youth, where style, sound, and screen blurred into identity. This solo exhibition dives into the cultural artifacts that shaped my adolescence—streetwear, video games, and the energy of the late 90s/ early 2000s. Through a series of traditional paintings, I reflect on the textures of growing up: late nights lit by the blue glow of a PlayStation screen, the layered codes of dress that defined belonging, and the rhythm of a time when creative expression was survival.
Each piece captures moments of memory and influence, told through dynamic figures, nostalgic palettes, and emotionally rich compositions. This show is about more than looking back—it’s about honoring the foundations of my visual language, and inviting viewers to reflect on their own personal archives."
Reminisce Over You was on view from July 4th - July 31st at Spare Room Gallery in Bolton Hill. SRG was founded by artist Ringo Lisko while studying at MICA. This gallery was born out of a desire to create space for artists to show their work, connect, and be in community.
